The work of the Swedish artist Hannes Michanek is sort of like a fairytale in itself. When observing its landscapes you always discover something new, its objectsradiate something mystical. A surreal moment is omnipresent in Michaneks art. He works with shifts and displacements of size, space and time.
Opposites such as figuration and abstraction, nature and civilization, impastopaint and hard lines collide and create a mysterious power. On a seemingly lovely way an arthistorical topos is radically updated.

Hannes Michanek (*1979,Kristianstad/Sweden) came to the Städelschule inFrankfurt in 2007 and graduated by Michael Krebber. In 2010 Michanek received the Main Campus Scholarship by the Stiftung Polytechnische Gesellschaft, in 2008 the Dresdner Bank Scholarship in Dubai. His works were exhibited byinstitutions like the Frankfurter Kunstverein, the Newport Museum in Wales and the Opelvillen Rüsselsheim.
